Hong Kong New Music Ensemble presents: ARCHIVAL RELEASE, a performance retrospective series Episode 3: ...still life after death, by Chinary Ung In this episode of our ARCHIVAL RELEASE series, we bring you our performance of ... still life after death, by the Cambodian-American master Chinary Ung. The piece grew out of a collaboration between the composer and the Seattle-based ensemble, The New Performance Group. The piece, which involves theatrical elements, was inspired by an ancient Cambodian ritual that takes place at the bedside of the languishing, where the presiding monk - in a similar tradition with the Tibetan 'Book of the Dead' - chants short phrases in the ancient Pali language, in assisting the passing of the individual.
