HKNME Archival Release #3: ... still life after death (Chinary UNG)
Hong Kong New Music Ensemble presents: ARCHIVAL RELEASE, a performance retrospective series Episode 3: ...still life after death, by Chinary Ung In this episode of our ARCHIVAL RELEASE series, we bring you our performance of ... still life after death, by the Cambodian-American master Chinary Ung. The piece grew out of a collaboration between the composer and the Seattle-based ensemble, The New Performance Group. The piece, which involves theatrical elements, was inspired by an ancient Cambodian ritual that takes place at the bedside of the languishing, where the presiding monk - in a similar tradition with the Tibetan 'Book of the Dead' - chants short phrases in the ancient Pali language, in assisting the passing of the individual. This performance features the renowned mezzo-soprano, Carol Lin. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Concert date: 9 May 2018 Performers: Angus Lee - flutes | Chi-shing Leung - clarinet | Matthew Lau - percussion | Linda Yim - piano | Patrick Yim - violin | Antonio Roig Tarros*, cello | Carol Lin, mezzo-soprano | Kuok-man Lio, conductor * guest musician ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ©Hong Kong New Music Ensemble 2020

Leonard Bernstein: Psalm 148
http://www.cuchorus.org.hk/ https://www.instagram.com/cuchorus/ https://www.facebook.com/cuhkchorus/ Scored for soprano solo and piano, "Psalm 148" is Bernstein's earliest surviving composition. Though the manuscript is dated 5 September 1935, the work may have been written between 1932 to 1935 during his high school days, according to a later interview with the composer. This short song not only exemplifies the breadth of 17-year-old Bernstein's musicality, but also foretells his compositional genius.
